Another way of saving money on lighting the house is making the most out of natural light – open shades/curtains instead of turning on the light. Do more light-needing tasks during day-time if possible and enjoy dimmer light in the evening.

It’s more wallet- and Earth-friendly to use fluorecent bulbs, but don’t forget to recycle them properly. United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has maps to help you locate a mercury-containing light bulb collection and recycling program where you live. Dedicate a place in your home where you collect broken bulbs – then you can recycle them all at a time (e.g. once a year or whenever the box gets full).
